THE TASK
In the stressful environment of a construction site—with noise, dirt, and rapidly changing lighting conditions—machine operators must be able to rely on simple controls for the machine and its assistance systems. In complex, efficiency-driven work processes, abstract sensor readings and machine data must be intuitively understandable. Different machines and processes require specific displays, each with their own widgets and presets.

The Solution
The B-Tronic user interface provides a clear and intuitive visual representation of both above-ground and underground processes. Operation is intuitive via the touch interface and rotary pushbutton, ensuring that all key values and wizards are easily accessible at all times. Various display modes—from night mode to high-contrast mode for extreme sunlight—ensure optimal readability in any environment. This is complemented by a configurable user interface that can be flexibly adapted to different requirements and preferences.

ONE HMI – EVERYTHING AT A GLANCE
IMAGO DESIGN has developed a modular HMI for deep-hole drilling machines used in a wide variety of highly complex processes, which adapts precisely to each specific application. Relevant values, process statuses, and warning messages are displayed contextually so that machine operators can maintain a clear overview at all times. The result: maximum transparency, reduced cognitive load, and safe, efficient operation even in the most demanding scenarios.
intensive prototype testing
Through extensive testing—both at the test site and in real-world conditions on construction sites—and iterative refinements, we have developed the B-Tronic 5 to market readiness. The feedback and input from both experienced operators and young, up-and-coming drivers have been incorporated into the development process.
Durability in everyday construction site use
The focus was on the readability and reliable usability of a complex interface featuring numerous values, graphics, and semantic color coding—tested in dusty conditions, under varying lighting conditions, and in highly dynamic environments. The result is a robust UI that ensures maximum clarity and operational reliability in everyday construction site operations worldwide.
Icon Gallery, Illustrations & Design System
To minimize language barriers, IMAGO DESIGN created a comprehensive icon library for Bauer that makes even complex concepts clear and easy to understand. In addition, an illustration style was developed that enables the creation of precise visual representations for a wide variety of processes, illustrating complex workflows with the necessary level of abstraction. A design system was developed for the vast ecosystem of Bauer applications, enabling the rapid, seamless, and CI-compliant implementation of additional software applications.
