THE TASK
Development of an integrated cooktop extractor system with a clear, purist design language and maximum cooking surface. Technical elements such as the air inlet nozzle and induction zones were to be integrated with restraint in terms of design, but with functional precision - focussing on intuitive operation.
The Solution
The design combines maximum functionality with understated elegance. The matt black glass surface integrates an iconically reduced air inlet nozzle flush with the surface and makes optimum use of the available space with generous surface induction zones.
Research and Usability Testing
At the start of the project, we conducted extensive user research: Through interviews, observations in the kitchen environment and analysing existing solutions, we were able to identify key needs and challenges.
We paid particular attention to intuitive operation, ease of cleaning and the interaction between the hob and extractor.
Interface - UX Design
The focus was on developing a clearly structured user interface that is both visually minimalist and self-explanatory to use. The interface was supplemented by a specially developed icon set that visualises all functions – from cooking zone control to fan control – clearly and consistently. The icons have been specially optimised for use on the black glass display and blend harmoniously into BORA’s minimalist design language. The design of the interface follows the principles of usability and elegance – for smooth everyday operation that emphasises the high design standards of the BORA brand.
Mechanical Engineering
The task of the Mecanical engineering team was to integrate the powerful extractor system, the surface induction and the central air inlet nozzle compactly and efficiently into the flush design of the BORA X Pure. The focus was on optimised air routing, precise component arrangement and technical implementation, while at the same time ensuring ease of cleaning and maintenance accessibility. The close collaboration between design, electronics and production resulted in a hob that sets new standards in terms of both technology and design. The result is a technically sophisticated system that blends seamlessly into the clear design language of the product.
