BORA Classic 2.0 - The Ultimate User Experience in the Kitchen

Cooking has never before been so easy and playful. With the BORA Classic 2.0, 'ease of use' is finally integrating into kitchen electronics. The innovative cooktop system adapts a revolutionary operating philosophy, usually only applied and appreciated in the field of consumer electronics. Its intuitive controls ensure maximum effectiveness, reacting to a quick tap or simple wipe. Animations support visually intuitive operation of the settings and functions and round off an extraordinary user experience. With its minimalist, deep black design, the system blends harmoniously into modern kitchen architectures.

THE TASK

The need to for complex operational sequences and functions to be displayed simply and within an intuitive interface, whilst naturally supporting the necessary requirements for safety of function and operation, and all within an extraordinarily short development time.
These were the challenges. No small task when one considers being faced with a cooktop system with integrated fume cupboard and modular cooktops that must also be combined individually.

THE SOLUTION

One size fits all. We have developed a central control unit for every function of the cooktop system, in which an innovative vertical touch slider was integrated into a ground recess on the surface.
This haptic element enables extremely precise control, with all important functions accessed by simply the tip of a finger.
Context-sensitive visualisations using colour or light/dark switching, acoustic signals and targeted animations support intuitive operation and reduce daily usage to veritable child's play.

Optimum UX – thanks to prototyping

For an all-round convincing user experience, we have consistently taken a user-centered and holistically aligned approach to design. We started with an analysis of the market and existing competition. Based on these results, we developed a primary version of the user interface design and implemented it as a prototype. The prototype then went into testing, where we conducted a total of three test rounds across 21 users.
After each iteration, usability and attractiveness were further optimised and the prototype was adapted accordingly for the next round of testing. This enabled us to reliably determine actual user needs and achieve maximum UX.

Where Kitchen Dreams Come True

BORA Classic 2.0 is designed as a modular system that enables individually customisable hob solutions. Different, powerful cooktops such as surface induction, gas or tepan stainless steel grills can be freely combined with the fume-extracting cupboard system. Combinations with one, three or more hobs are also possible without any problems.

Invisibility Thanks to 'Black Vision'

It may see like black magic, but 'Black Vision' technology is actually behind the deep black control panel. In standby mode, it is almost invisible and therefore integrates seamlessly into any kitchen environment.

Innovative touch slider – the result of perfect teamwork

It takes a multitude of talented and creative minds to bring a technically sophisticated product like the BORA Classic 2.0 to a successful conclusion. Together with the BORA development engineers, the experienced U-eXperts of the UX Gruppe took up this challenge in earnest and successfully created the embedded system design for the control elements and their interfaces. A complicated process, this involved the testing of a wide range of materials such as glass, for example, in its feasibility, functionality and safety, as well as selecting the optimum combination of materials. The UX Gruppe is also responsible for manufacturing the control unit itself.
